Austeng are a boutique engineering firm that specialises in the design, engineering, development and building of customised electromechanical machinery and systems.
Austeng identifies the need to transition to a low-carbon economy and to minimise resource utilisation. We are a team committed to reducing our impact on the environment, will continually review our sustainability position and actively seek opportunities for improvement.
The key drivers for this vision are:
Austeng completed a voluntary Carbon Audit for the 2010-2011 Financial Year with Vicky Grosser (www.managecarbon.com.au) to quantify our Carbon Emissions with a goal to significantly reduce our Carbon emissions by 2020. This was Geelong’s first Carbon Management Response Plan to date.
The audit indicated the following primary Carbon sources:
Austeng’s total evaluated Carbon Emissions for the 10-11FY was 214 tonnes CO2-e.
Austeng has purchased a Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle and an Electric Forklift. Both vehicles are (notionally) powered by the Austeng Solar systems.
Purchased electricity was Austeng’s largest Carbon source. Since installing Solar arrays, LED lighting, electronic timers and our staff becoming more aware of energy usage energy consumption from the grid has dropped from 91,000 KWh in during the audit to 26,000 KWh in 2019 (a reduction of over 70%! or 85 tonnes of CO2-e) , with an additional 18,000 kWh being exported to the grid to offset the consumption of others.
Since 2011, all domestic and international flights have purchased offsets via Qantas or Virgin Australia Carbon Flight Offset programs.
Austeng vehicles (excluding 1 forklift) are LPG (dedicated gas) or diesel fueled.
A recycling program has been implemented including,
Our team have a greater awareness and interest in sustainability with many lunchtime conversations spent discussing global, national and local environmental issues and mitigation measures.
