Austeng Secures Federal Funding to Demonstrate Onsite Hydrogen Production and Blending
Austeng is pleased to announce that we have secured Federal Government funding to deliver a pioneering hydrogen project at our Geelong facility—focused on demonstrating the commercial viability of onsite hydrogen production and blending for industrial applications.
This project will showcase how green hydrogen can be produced onsite using renewable energy and seamlessly integrated into existing gas infrastructure. By generating hydrogen via a small-scale electrolyser powered by solar energy, the solution avoids the cost and complexity associated with compression, storage, and transport—unlocking a more practical pathway for industry to decarbonise.
Delivered in partnership with SunGreenH2, Deakin University’s Hycel Technology Hub, and Swinburne University, the project will involve the installation and trial of a 5kW electrolyser, supporting real-world validation of this emerging technology.
Project Highlights
- Demonstrates a decentralised hydrogen production model for industrial users
- Showcases how small-scale renewable systems can support green hydrogen generation for SMEs
- Eliminates reliance on energy-intensive compression, storage, and transport
- Trials hydrogen blends of up to 50% in industrial applications
- Achieves potential CO₂ emissions reductions of up to 25%
- Provides a scalable and commercially viable solution for hard-to-abate sectors
- Opens opportunities across Australian and international markets, including Asia
This initiative reinforces Austeng’s role at the forefront of applied engineering and energy innovation—bridging the gap between emerging technologies and real-world industrial adoption.
