Lyn George AustengCorporate Director

Bachelor of Laws with Honours, Melbourne University. Background experience in commercial litigation. Performs legal and managerial functions within the company. Her legal background and communications skills add commercial depth to the company. Has been instrumental in Austeng’s transition to new areas of advanced manufacturing.

Over the 2020 Queen’s Birthday weekend, Lyn was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of her contribution to Australian manufacturing and unwavering leadership throughout Geelong’s transformation into a world-renowned hub in advanced manufacturing.

Since formally joining Austeng in 1993 Lyn has grown increasingly passionate abour manufacturing and the benefits it brings to employment, innovation, environment and community. Lyn has become a driving force to grow manufacturing in the region, raise public profile and attract new talent into the industry. She is a founding director of two start-up companies namely Capricorn Power and FormFlow.

Lyn is a standout example for women in manufacturing especially considering her training and background in Corporate Law specialising in Federal and Supreme Court litigation.

Marcus Cowie AustengGeneral Manager

Marcus graduated from Monash University as a Mechanical Engineer and has been an integral part of Austeng since 1994, contributing his diverse skill set across multiple disciplines within the company. His extensive experience spans design, mechanical and electrical engineering, programming, and project management, reflecting his versatility and commitment to delivering comprehensive solutions.

In his role as General Manager, Marcus oversees the seamless execution of projects across Austeng’s departments.

In addition to his general management duties, Marcus holds a specialized role as the Crematorium Equipment Service Manager. This involves overseeing the maintenance, service, and support of Austeng’s specialized equipment in this sensitive sector, ensuring reliability and compliance with industry standards.

Marcus’s tenure and contributions at Austeng exemplify his role as a leader who combines technical expertise with managerial acumen. Russell Brown AustengProjects Engineer

Russell brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Austeng as a seasoned professional with a background deeply rooted in both Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. With thirty five years of exposure in the manufacturing environment, including a significant tenure at Ford Motor Co., Russell has developed a robust foundation across various facets crucial to industrial operations.

His extensive career at Ford Motor Co. provided him with comprehensive exposure to critical areas such as safety, quality control, production management, financial oversight, maintenance protocols, environmental standards, and advanced design systems. This diverse background equips Russell with a holistic understanding of manufacturing processes and operational excellence.

David Habgood AustengElectrical Engineer

David graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (Hons).  David Habgood is a highly valued member of Austeng, serving in dual capacities as Lead Electrical and Programming Engineer and as Crematorium Service Support. His extensive expertise and versatile skill set play a crucial role in both the technical and operational aspects of the company, contributing significantly to its overall success and service excellence

In his role as an Electrical and Programming Engineer, David brings knowledge and technical proficiency to the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and control programming. His  understanding of electrical engineering principles, coupled with his expertise in programming and automation, enables him to create sophisticated solutions that enhance the functionality and efficiency of Austeng’s projects.  David’s responsibilities include Electrical Design and Development, Programming and Automation, Testing and Troubleshooting as well as Collaboration with other engineers and technical teams to integrate electrical and programming solutions into broader project frameworks. His collaborative approach ensures that all components function harmoniously.

David’s role extends beyond traditional engineering responsibilities to include essential support for the crematorium services offered by Austeng. His work in this area demonstrates his commitment to providing high-quality, reliable support to ensure the smooth operation of crematorium equipment and systems.

Dylan Mayson Mechanical Engineer Design engineer Project manager AustengMechanical Engineer

Dylan graduated from Deakin University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons) with a prior mechanical trade background.  As the Lead Design Engineer, his innovative mindset and keen eye for detail consistently elevate Austeng’s engineering projects to new heights of excellence.

As a Project Manager, Dylan is characterized by his ability to effectively coordinate resources, manage timelines, and mitigate risks, all while maintaining a strong focus on quality and client satisfaction. His strategic thinking and problem-solving skills enable him to overcome challenges proactively, ensuring that projects stay on track and objectives are met or exceeded.

In leadership roles he cultivates a supportive team culture, mentoring junior engineers and inspiring colleagues to achieve their best.

Luke is a dedicated Mechanical Engineer at Austeng, where he plays a pivotal role in coordinating the servicing requirements for a diverse array of equipment across multiple sectors. Tim ClearyProjects Engineer / Estimator

Tim graduated from Swinburne University with degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Hons) and Business (majoring in Management) and is a Mechanical Engineer and Estimator at Austeng.  Tim’s role is crucial in ensuring the successful planning and execution of engineering projects, his methodical approach to both engineering and estimation ensures that every aspect of a project is carefully considered and expertly executed.

Tim Cleary is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities that are essential to Austeng’s operations including:

Engineering Design: Tim is involved in the design and development of mechanical systems and components. His work includes creating detailed plans and specifications, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring that designs meet all relevant standards and client requirements.

Project Estimation: Tim’s role as an estimator involves developing accurate cost estimates for projects. This includes analyzing project specifications, consulting with suppliers and subcontractors, and considering all factors that might impact the overall cost. His estimates are critical for budgeting, financial planning, and securing client approvals.

Russell George AustengProject Engineer

Russell graduated from Melbourne University (B.Sci/Masters Eng) and before joining Austeng, Russell had over four years experience as mechanical engineer and designer and has worked for leading building services engineering & consultancy firms  (NDY & KBR) within Melbourne across many industries including; infrastructure, transportation, commercial, retail, residential, education and agriculture.

In his role as a Mechanical Engineer, Russell excels in designing and developing cutting-edge mechanical systems and components. His deep understanding of engineering principles, coupled with his adept use of advanced design tools and software, allows him to create precise and efficient solutions tailored to meet the complex needs of each project. His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality ensure that every design adheres to the highest standards of safety and performance.

As a Project Manager, Russell demonstrates exceptional leadership and organizational skills. He adeptly manages all phases of engineering projects, from initial planning and scope definition through execution and completion. Carl, a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Austeng, who earned his Bachelor’s degree in Science and Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Melbourne.

During his tenure at Austeng, he has gained valuable experience working on projects within the food manufacturing and green tech sectors, thereby expanding his skill set. Carl also contributes to Austeng by providing engineering design, project management and supporting our service departments.

Mark is a Mechanical Design Draftsman with over 40 years experience in manufacturing, across various industries. Working alongside our engineering team Mark has been involved in numerous Austeng design and build projects over the years, and now brings his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm to us on a permanent basis.

Project Manager

Brad is the Workshop Manager at Austeng and has worked in the company for more than 25 years, having completed his trade apprenticeship with us.  He plays a pivotal role in overseeing the manufacturing operations at Austeng.

Brad brings a well of knowledge and practical experience to his role at Austeng. His career began in sheet metal fabrication and boiler making, where he developed a solid foundation in precision manufacturing and metalworking techniques. Over the years, Brad has progressed through various roles that have honed his skills in workshop management, production planning, and team leadership. His hands-on approach and mechanical aptitude ensure that Austeng’s workshop operates at efficiently, delivering high-quality products on time and within budget.  Known for his meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to stay calm under pressure. His proactive approach and strong communication skills enable him to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a high level of performance across the workshop.
