“The Chariot” — The Catalyst Cooler Removal Unit
The Catalyst Cooler Removal Unit—affectionately known as “The Chariot”—has been dispatched to return to Viva, following a pilgrimage-style journey back to its origins.
This repatriation to Austeng’s workshop on Douro Street, North Geelong, led to a major overhaul. It is now ready to resume its 67.5-tonne weight-lifting duties with renewed confidence.
Originally designed and built by Austeng in 1990 (by the still current Managing Director Ross George and his father John George who founded Austeng), the CCRU has been completely stripped down, refurbished, reassembled, and fully load-tested using a purpose-designed and manufactured test rig.
Projects of this scale draw on a wide range of expertise, and Austeng is proud to have collaborated with several local companies—each contributing their specialist capabilities to bring this transition to life.
